Bedroom of The Week - Carolyne Roehm

I've posted before about my love for designer Carolyne Roehm's master bedroom in her spectacular New York City home. I was floored the other day to run across a lengthy pictorial in an old New York Social Diary post showing her entire home, including some new angles and view of the very large master bedroom that I had not seen before. From the photos I had seen I had no idea of the scale of the room.

This is the view that became so popular in the blogoshphere of the spectacular upholstered bed which was modeled after a late 19th century antique. Apparently Miss Roehm was so smitten with this Cowtan & Tout floral that she set out to cover everything in it. I would love to have seen her upholsterers face when she told him to cover the entire bed! It certainly must have been a challenge fit for only a true artisan but the finished product is spectacular.

The view from the end of the bed shows matching nooks fitted with glazed doors flanking the beautiful period fireplace.

Another view of that wall, again showing off a few of the many antiques used in the space. The entire home is filled with museum quality pieces and yet it has an overriding sense of comfort and hospitality.

This view of the bed gives a sense of the true size of the space, a rarity in the city.

More antiques and a lovely painting. Vignettes are placed throughout the space consisting of personal photos, small collections, and tiny flower pots.

A skirted vanity does not look like it gets much use but it is a pretty addition to the room.

Look at the exquisite detailing and the free scroll work on the pair of Rococo guilt mirrors that flank the bed.

Technology, aka, the dreaded TV, is cleverly hidden behind the glass doors on the fireplace wall. I am dying to know what is in the green and white covered books. Are they covered magazines, they look too large to be DVDs or videos? I suppose they could be albums of DVDs but that would be quite a collection! They are all the same size. What could they be - photo albums - why are they in the bedroom? A mystery!

Check out the entire post at the New York Social Diary to get a look at the rest of her spectacular home.

Bedroom of the Week

Finding a good workroom that can produce both window treatments and custom bedding can sometimes be a challenge but if you live anywhere near Franklin Kentucky you're in luck because that is the home of View by Vickie, the custom workroom and design studio of the very talented Vickie Law.

Her work is beautifully done with great attention to every detail.

She has a great sense of proportion which is so key to producing beautiful soft treatments.

I love this table skirt with its pointed scallop topper and coordinating banding at the hem. She has used microwelt on the scallops and to separate the banding from the main skirting. These are the kind of details that set a couture workroom apart from the rest.

Another pretty window seat - I always wanted one of these when I was growing up but I never got one. Maybe some day!

These draperies are to die for. Notice the handmade, stuffed flower embellishments with colorful ribbons. I love this idea, it is so cute and really makes the treatment unique. I adore the fabric, it looks like it has cut outs of flowers attached to the face.

I use this heading quite a bit because it is so versatile. It is a gathered ( or pleated in this case) scalloped heading bound at the top and hung with loops or ties.

This drawing is a similar design from my book; for such a simple design it packs a big impact.

Vickie also makes beautiful slip covers, notice how well placed and matched the fabrics pattern is on this cover. This is how it is supposed to be done!

Bedroom of the Week

photo: sorry - can't remember

I am head over heels for this beautiful bedroom! I admire how the designer has skillfully blended toiles of different patterns and scales and mixed in just enough white to give it a light handed touch. If I knew where this room was I would have to go over there and beg them to sell me the stunning mirror they have used as a headboard. It absolutely makes the room, although the beamed ceiling and the fabulous rug make quite an impact as well. I wish I had a view of the whole room to show you - or the entire house for that matter. But we'll have to settle for this lttle gem.

Bedroom of the Week

I always love a simple bed swathed in yards and yards of soft cotton. This bed looks so inviting and comfortable and I love the view outside the window.

If you're looking for a cuddly companion for your afternoon nap in your luxurious bed consider this guy, sent to me by my new friend interior designer, Renee Finberg of the very smart design blog Adventures in Design

My little doxie Peanut weighed just under 2 pounds and was about this big when we first got her.
